When mounts first came out I hung out in TSS' (my guild at the time) new player city and some friends and I road our dewbacks in circles for about an hour or so.
I remember before mounts it was an epic journey just to go krayt hunting or out to some of the POI's. POI's weren't marked back then, so I had to hear rumors of their existence and go walking around for a couple of hours to find them. Once I found them it was always a really good feeling, like I had accomplished something. It's kind of pathetic to think that I felt that way about a video game nowadays, but that was back in 2003, I was 13 in 2003.
I remember getting that system message that the first jedi had been unlocked. I was on an adventure with Gausav out to the famous Jabba's Palace for the first time and it flashed in the middle of our screens. We later heard that the jedi had been running around AH showing off but I never got a chance to see him/her.
Way back then, wasn't there a rule where if you were killed 3 times on your jedi you lost your jedi?
