Mellichae tried his best to avoid the inevitable, but Captain Xaira Lightstar and her team of Rebel Special Forces were too much for him. In the end, Captain Lightstar found amusement in beating his corpse with his own broken cyber-arm.
"That's not very Jedi-like!" says Colonel Kindreth Kin to the Captain. Xaira just smiled back at him, somewhat disappointed in his comment.
"Fine!" she replied "I'll stop, but I'm taking this as a souvenir."
Three days later...
Xaira finally finished running her errands for people who have no spines. "Bah! These people need to learn to handle their own problems" she thought to herself. The humidity of Naboo was especially thick on this day. Xaira wiped the sweat from her forehead.
Suddenly, she heard something. But she couldn't make out what it was. It almost sounded like a shrilly choir of children like she had heard several times before while approaching the village of Aurillia. From what she could tell, it was coming from the mountains to the north of Bela Vistal. So, she hopped on her swoop and went to investigate.
After what seemed like an eternity of driving, Xaira came upon a broken jade monument. Something seemed eerie yet majestic and calming about it; she could feel the power of the force flowing from its stone altar. The lightsaber she constructed during her trials suddenly ignited and burned a small hole in the ground at her feet. She struggled to turn it off and was forced to her knees, as if something had pushed her to the ground.
“Xaira!” a deep voice spoke from within the structure. “You have proven yourself worthy as a Jedi. You will need this to protect yourself.” A white robe mysteriously appeared on top of the altar. “Go and bring justice to the galaxy. May the Force be with you!” Then the voice faded and the choir was silenced, leaving just the sound of the wind atop the mountain’s peak. Xaira rose to her feet and journeyed back to Bela Vistal to head home.
The exhausted Captain made her way back to Fort Ootinni, Tatooine. She entered her house and collapsed on her futon and fell asleep instantly.
After several hours, Xaira awoke to a loud knock on her door. “Coming!!” she shouted. An unfamiliar voice responded “Are you gonna come our or are you gonna hide in there?!” She opened her door, nearly blinded by the suns. She saw a tall man standing at her doorstep wearing a full set of Mandalorian armor with a set of blaster pistols on each thigh and holding a proton carbine.
“Are you Xaira Lightstar?” the man rudely demanded. “Maybe? Who wants to know?”
“Emperor Palpatine!!” he replied, pointed the carbine at Xaira…and fired.
Without even thinking, Xaira pulled out her lightsaber and deflected the bolt away from her. What she didn’t notice was the barrage of bolts that followed. One bolt hit Xaira in her right shoulder, another in her left leg. Xaira cried out in pain.
“Not so tough are you, Jedi!!” laughed the armored man. “This will be an easy bounty.”
“So…you’re a…Bounty Hunter!” Xaira muttered, trying to push through the pain as she attempted to stand up. The bounty hunter walked slowly towards her, his boots making an ominous thump with every step. He picked Xaira up by her collar and held her off the ground.
“I think I’ll have a little fun with you before I kill you.” he laughed.
Xaira felt a swift metal backhand across her face, then…the feeling of being airborne and unbalanced. She braced herself for impact, for she knew she had been thrown. Fortunately, she landed on sand.
She stumbled to her feet, her adrenaline allowing her to ignore the pain from her leg. She ran as fast as she could to her swoop. She climbed onto it and sped off trying to escape this sadistic creature. The only place she could think to go was the Rebel outposts south of Fort Ootinni. But when she got there…nobody was there.
The bounty hunter was close on her tail, firing more shots from his carbine. His BARC speeder was amazingly fast. Xaira could feel herself begin to panic; there was no escape.
Feeling that all was lost, she sensed help could be found in the mountains. Without thinking, Xaira turned her swoop towards the mountain and pushed on the throttle harder than she ever had before.
Xaira could see a large rock formation on the horizon and thought she could possibly hide in it. But the bounty hunter was too close behind her, still firing his carbine from atop his BARC. Xaira ignited her lightsaber and deflected several of the shots. Unfortunately, it was not enough. BOOOM!! Her swoop had taken a direct hit and was on fire and loosing speed.
“I have you now!!!” the bounty hunter shouted. “There is no escape!!”
Xaira pushed harder to get the bike to move faster but it was no use.
As if it couldn’t get any worse, the rock formation began to move, and a large head with a long snout and massive horns emerged. Xaira was heading straight for a monstrous Krayt Dragon.
Suddenly a small voice in Xaira’s head began to speak to her. “Use the Force. Trust your feelings!!” Xaira mustered up all her courage and leaped from her swoop and through the air passing over the Krayt’s massive head and landed on its neck. “What!!” shouted the bounty hunter, realizing he was heading right for the dragon.
Xaira ran down the spine and tail of the enormous creature and landed right on top of her swoop. She noticed that the carbine bolts had ceased. She pulled away from the Krayt as she could hear the blood-curdling screams from the other side of it. Xaira tried not to imagine the horror that was happening at that very moment and suddenly…there was silence.
Xaira headed back to Fort Ootinni and was greeted by Kindreth Kin. She had suffered severe blood loss and a concussion. She slumped off her swoop, and staggered over to him.
“Tough day?” Kindreth playfully asked.
Xaira’s eyes rolled into the back of her head as her body went limp and collapsed in Kindreth's arms.
