The Fort Ootinni council chamber was filled with city residents. A great round table sat in the middle of the room. Sitting at the table were the Jedi Masters of the Republic Special Forces. Neek was inspecting a new horn growing at the crown of his head, Ank’hara sat with her arms folded in utter boredom, and Phenix was sharing a dicreet conversation with his romantic interest, Elektra. Kindreth sat between Xaira and Kendall. Xaira sat quietly with her hands on her lap, trying to figure out what the vision she had meant. Her concentration was broken when Master Vikrant called the meeting to order.
“We have received a message sent from Corusant. The message is not in its entirety and Supreme Chancellor Mothma has asked for our assistance on deciphering the message.”
Vikrant pressed a few buttons on a small keypad at his station at the table and ordered the lights dimmed. A large blue hologram showing the face of an X-Wing pilot filled most of the room. He looked distressed and clearly he was sweating profusely.
“Echo Base, this is Gold Leader. Do you read??!!” shouted the pilot in a panicky tone. Then he repeated the statement with even greater emphasis.
“Echo Base, this is Gold Leader! Do you copy? Over!!”
Then the pilots head rocked back and forth as if he had been near a large explosion. He looked over his left shoulder swiftly, and then the right.
“We are under attack! Repeat! We Are under attack! There appears to be a large capitol ship in the….” The transmission blinked and fuzzed with interference and cleared up again.
“…Fighters everywhere!! We are outnumbered! Request immediate reinforcements to Dan…” The screen fuzzed more violently for several seconds before clearing up once again.
“I have now lost all of my men; I am the only one le…” The hologram fuzzed even more violently and became solid white noise. Then it disappeared.
Vikrant stood up and ordered the lights be returned to their normal brightness. “Well? What do you all think?”
“I think you should play it again.” barked Neek as he dusted his hands off from the horn clippings.
“If you wish to see it again, I shall play it. But is it truly necessary?” responded Vikrant.
Kendall stood up and stretched. “Well, I don’t know why the Senate asked us to decipher it. It seemed fairly clear to me.”
“I ran it through a clarity filter in our system, a fun little toy courtesy of Master Troy.” Vikrant replied. A faint smile began to appear on Phenix’s face.
“It would appear that they were attacked, I heard a mention of ‘capitol ship’ and ‘fighters’ in the message.” came a voice from the back of the room. A hooded figured stood up and walked towards the council table.
“I thought I recognized that voice. Welcome back Darkmatter. Did you find what you were looking for?” stated Vikrant.
“Not really.” Said Darkmatter as he lowered his hood. “But I came across something rather interesting while on Dantooine.” He reached into a pocket and pulled out a small sketchbook and handed it to Vikrant.
“What is it?” asked Vikrant.
“Something I saw, I obviously couldn’t bring it back to me, so I drew it instead.” Replied Darkmatter.
Vikrant took the book and opened it; his face began to show signs of great concentration. He flipped several pages, closed the book and handed it to Phenix, who then opened it. The book was passed around the entire table until everyone had seen it.
The book contained very detailed sketches of a temple, obviously in ruins. Vines and othe foliage had grown over much of the walls. The next pages included drawings of a spire; corroded and weathered. The rest of the pages were rubbings that Darkmatter had made of symbols and hieroglyphics he had found in one of the main chambers.
“Where is this temple?” asked Neek.
“Approximately 3-5 kilometers south of the abandoned Rebel Base. It wasn’t easy to find, it’s practically underground.” Darkmatter replied.
“We should send some teams to investigate. Masters Odelli, Pryce, Troy, Kin, and Lightstar, you will accompany Darkmatter to the site and see if we can get more information on this structure.” ordered Vikrant.
The six Jedi nodded in agreement, stood up and headed for the door.
