Aye. You should join me if you're interested. It's not like you can't have fun without the best gear. You just might not be uber. =P If you're that worried about it and want to play, be a Jebi. Most of their defenses are innate and come from talents or auras. The rest is from their robes, which are not hard to obtain. As for offense, I don't think having uber crystals makes much of a difference, but I could be wrong. But really, I think getting a decent setup would be easy with any class. You can get nice gear from quest rewards. The main way you'd fall behind in pvp is from skill tapes and special pieces of jewelry/clothing with stats on them, because I think those cost a lot. But if you level up pilot and sell your lvl 8 reward gun for 20 mill (people really like them on Starsider, they really do sell for that much!), you can buy that stuff if you like! lol But the main staple of your gear, your base armor set and weapon(s), are not hard to get.

I plan to run around like a maniac in my 4k innate armor from smuggler expertise. I may die easy, but at least I'll die stylin' in my flight suit! lol And people won't make fun of me either, because it is Starsider. A lot of the people even walk from place to place, like from the starport to the cantina. I run or use my speeder! lol I do feel bad when I run over a roleplayer with my speeder though. I'm sure that ruins the immersion for them. =/

Anyway, if you're interested, give it a free trial. It isn't worth the money if you aren't sure you'll have yourself some good ol' fun.

Technically there's no such thing, meaning there are, as said by a dev "no official or unnoficial roleplaying servers." I dunno why they said that though, because while there is roleplaying on every server, some definitely have a lot more of it than others.

Anyway, yes, Starsider is a roleplaying server. However, it still seems like a minority activity, or at least not exceeding 50% of the players you see doing it at any one time. I am a bit intimidated by the thought of doing it myself (I'm afraid to put my roleplay tag up...lol), so I haven't rp'd yet, but I love seeing other people do it. It really adds to the feel! And it is nice that there is no "obligation," no peer pressure, to roleplay that I've come across yet. That'd just be annoying if I wanted to check the bazaar or get buffs without taking 5 minutes to get there (walking), and people were sending me hate tells for not roleplaying! haha, Could you imagine that? If I roleplay, it is going to be as a health nut who feels the need to run instead of walk so he stays fit. Yeah, that's going into my character description! lol However, I do make it a point to respect the roleplayers and not do anything completely immersion breaking like spamming emotes. I used to loooove to do that! lol /love spank macros

The real reason I chose Starsider, though, is because its pilot community is one of the healthier ones. Chilly's lack of space pvp was always a complaint of mine. Another reason is that the population is high, relatively speaking. Bria's is the highest, but the server is West Coast, and I like having my ping time as low as possible. Plus their space scene isn't quite as hoppin' from what I read. Also, Starsider's community seems more mature overall than some of the other servers I've tried. Perhaps that is just perception and/or opinion, though. There are asshats and angry little kids everywhere, after all.

Guys!! I took part in this week's weekly deep space pvp event! It was amazing. Pockets of the game still have a lot of life left. There were over 80 people at this event. It was some outstanding fun. I got blown to space dust many times, but I'll get my ship and my skills back in shape again eventually!

You'll see me flying at the beginning of the second vid. Look for Nexsyn (Star Strider) in the upper right hand corner. That's my character name and ship name. You get to see me get shot at...

Oh and Xova was my squadron leader, she is in the vids frequently. So when you see her in the vids, know that I am (usually) somewhere nearby! She's got a great ship and lots of skill, so I think the maker of the vid was trying to single her out a bit like he was with some of the other pilots out there in the big black - which is why she got lots o' "screen time."

You can watch a stream of it on filefront, like you would on youtube. The quality just isn't as good. =(

Yeah, I just looked at the stream and the quality sucks. The quality is great when you download, but in the stream I can't even make out the names of his targets.

Why don't you want to download it? Just too lazy?

No, I was flyin' proud as a Rebel! Did you look for Nexsyn (Star Strider)??!?!?! It is right at the beginning of the second video, after the intro. I'm the second person he targets, after Xova. Lol, It really isn't that interesting, but I thought it was neat.
